A thought...
Every one, or at least everyone who doesn't live in a big city needs a car right? Well some people can't afford one for whatever reason. I used to be one of these people and it really crippled us. I was thinking the other day about this: Why not have a NPO car dealership? Like lots of higher tax bracket people buy new cars every year, and what do they do with the old ones? They trade them in, or sell them or whatever they do with them. Well, they could donate them and essentially get the same amount they got for the trade in value back with their tax return or at least use it as a tax break. The place could then sell the car to a needy family for a small price, like part of the blue book value, or maybe the blue book value as this could cause a problem later with people just buying and selling the cars. Now, it could work like a normal buy here pay here place but instead of 'credit' reffrences they'd need 9 refrences, 3 peers, 3 work related, and 3 family members. They'd also need to put down 5% and work out a payment plan or whatever...interest free of course. I suppose this is one of those ideal things that would never work and I haven't really hammered out all of the details but I do know that it would have to run as a by need thing and would ONLY deal with people who have had STEADY jobs for at least 6 months, because I wouldn't want to help people who don't help themselves and they can not already own a car...this means there'd have to be a way to figure that out. I don't know maybe its like a utopiaand that is why it hasn't been done, I just would rather think that it hasn't been done because of greed but it's probably a mixture of the both.
